Padmavati: Here's a list of controversies regarding the much-awaited film

Since the time of its inception, ‘Padmavati’ has been the centre of controversies. The film which has Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the lead role will hit the theatres on December 1.The movie has been in trouble waters ever since it was announced with two vandalism incidences already reported. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film maker and the director of the movie was slapped and assaulted on 27th January, 2017 by members of Karni Sena who staged an angry protest at Jaigarh fort in Jaipur, Rajasthan where he was shooting for the film. Bollywood has expressed anger after Rajput Karni Sena workers created ruckus and vandalised the sets of filmmaker in Jaipur, saying the entire film fraternity should come together and take a stand. Bandh observed in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh: On 3rd November, the Karni Sena protested claiming that they have got a big library and that in no book is it written that Alauddin Khilji fell in love with Padmavati or that he was her lover. (Youtube Grab)
The ruling BJP in Gujarat on 2nd November, has demanded the release be postponed till after the state elections, the Congress has said if there is actually 'distortion of history' in the movie then it should not be released at all. (Youtube Grab)
On 6th November, Bajrang Dal said that Rani Padmavati's depiction in the film is an insult to the Rajput community and the protest against the film will take place.The decision to hold the protest on the film’s release was taken at a meeting by them. (Youtube Grab)
BJP MP from Rajasthan C P Joshi said on 9th February said that Padmavati was known for saving her honour by jumping into a pier, but the director has portrayed her as a lover of the attacker. He sought Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani's intervention to stop the upcoming release of the film. (Youtube Grab)

Shri Rajput Karni Sena, a Rajput organisation, on 23rd September burnt the posters at Rajmandir Cinema Hall in Jaipur and shouted slogans against Bhansali. (Youtube Grab)
On 18th October a gang of protestors rubbed the rangoli at a shopping mall in Surat, Gujarat. It had taken the artist 48 hours to create the rangoli which was ruined in seconds. To which the lead actress Deepika Padukone sought Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani's help to look into the matter and take necessary action. (Youtube Grab)
