Born Ratan Naval Tata on 28 December 1937, he was chairman of the Tata Group from 1991-2012. He stepped down as the chairman on 28 December 2012 and now holds the position of Chairman Emeritus of the group which is an honorary and advisory position.

Tata was instrumental in bringing the Fiat-Tata alliance in India . The companies parted ways but Tata Motors still uses Fiat engines. Tata’s dream to bring to Indians an affordable car came true when he launched the cheapest car in the world, the Nano.
