The youngest Mercedes Benz for the Macho Man

German auto giant Mercedes-Benz recently launched its penultimate SUV, the G63 AMG, which comes with an expressive design, state-of-the-art technology and some great features which will appeal to a new segment of customers. Ammar Alvi checks out.

The longest serving vehicle in series production—the Mercedes-Benz G-Class—is now the youngest vehicle in Mercedes-Benz India portfolio. In its 34th year of series production, the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class continues to catch lot of attention. Equipped with even more luxurious interiors, discreet modifications in design and styling, enhanced safety features, new infotainment system and a powerful 5.5 litre supercharged AMG engine to boot, the G 63 AMG is ready to rumble on Indian roads.

The G-Class stars in the exciting sequel A Good Day to Die-Hard featuring Bruce Willis as the iconoclastic and take-no-prisoner cop John McClane. With its breathtakingly spectacular car chases through Moscow, the G-Class along with other Mercedes-Benz models are the ideal ‘Hero Cars’. Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “The  G-Class has the essential attributes of a Mercedes-Benz: Dynamism, Comfort, Safety and Status. It retains its shape, rugged design and the same mission to cope with extreme conditions. The G-Class is called upon to serve in extreme terrains. The G 63 AMG reconciles an involving, compelling driving experience with performance, functionality and timeless appeal...”

The G63 AMG is available at `1.45 crore. With a rated output of 400 KW (544 hp), the G 63 AMG develops maximum torque of 760 Nm yet remains extremely efficient thanks to the standard-fit ECO start/stop function. Exterior highlights: metallic paint, AMG radiator grille with chromed twin louvers, AMG wheel-arch flaring with ‘V8 BITURBO’ logo. There is an AMG exhaust system with twin chromed side tailpipes, AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels in Titanium Grey with red painted brake calipers and 275/50 R20 tyres. One is impressed by the illuminated AMG stainless steel door sill panels, seats in designo leather, leather-trimmed dashboards and multi-function steering wheel as well as door centre panels in ruffled leather, headlining in anthracite Alcantara and the ambient lighting possibilities. The standard-fit chrome package with designo trim complements the dynamic impression created by the interior which can also be specified with carbon-fibre trim.
