BENGALURU : A Bengaluru-based graphic designer, Poorna Chandra has been gaming since a long time. He says, “I was interested in computer games and even used to visit the gaming cafes. It was during one such visit that I was introduced to Dota 2. Since then, I have never stopped playing the game.” Poorna is a professional Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Overwatch player. He says that gaming is a never ending entertainment. He opines that the gaming world has changed now and is becoming a good entertainment industry. People have started accepting gaming as a profession. There is fun, competitiveness and also gaming provides career opportunities to a lot of people apart from those working in game developing companies. For example streamers, content creators and the Esport athletes. Poorna says, “I see gaming as a field which has got a lot of opportunities.”

Having completed Animation and VFX courses and with the skills in graphics, he has been appointed as a graphic designer for one of India’s popular and reputed Esports brand. He says, “There are huge brands who support and sponsor the Esports team,  players and tournaments. Also, there are a lot of tournaments being hosted with noticeably good amount of prize pool to reward the gamers for their efforts. Gamers are also given good exposure here.”

This gamer follows a lot of techs and keeps himself updated on what’s happening in the PC and Gaming industry and watches a few YouTube Channels such as TechSource, JayzTwoCents, Linus Tech Tips, and Dave Lee. Like all professional gamers, he also has gaming idols-Daryl “iceiceice” Koh, who is a Singaporean Dota 2 player and Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi, who is also a Dota 2 player from Germany.

Being a graphic designer, this 22-year-old gamer says that the gaming world is super competitive for game-developers and gamers. Because gamers always want to prove themselves better in every single game, rounds and every single minute. On the other side, the industry is also working hard to give out quality content for the gamers around the world. 

He has participated in many tournaments with Clan Wars and Geforce Cup being the recent ones. Not only this, he hosted a Charity tournament for Dota 2. Presently he is working as a graphic designer for LXG, which is India’s Premium E-sports arena.  Poorna says, “Settling in the gaming field can be competitive if you are a gamer and you just want to play in future. But learning and developing games and exploring more game is what I personally prefer to do.”
