What’s new in the gaming store?

CHENNAI : It is the week of E3, and you know what that means. The Electronic Entertainment Expo is arguably the world’s most important gaming convention, and a ton of new game announcements, information and other juicy tidbits has descended upon us. Today, we’ll try to sort this inundation of information

Anthem

Anthem is BioWare’s first new IP in a while, and it’s looking pretty good! Comparisons to Bungie’s Destiny are inevitable but initial feedback from the show is casting Anthem as more of an ‘Iron Man simulator’ which, any way you slice it, is pretty cool indeed. Less cool is that you’ll need to be online to play, and there’s no split-screen co-op.

Cyberpunk 2077

There’s simply nowhere else we could start. Five years ago, CD Projekt RED released a teaser for Cyberpunk 2077 which immediately put it at the top of many people’s wishlists — mine included. At E3, they released the first full trailer for the game (although, disappointingly, without actual gameplay footage) and it looks amazing. Still no release date, but it must be getting closer!

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

From Software, the diabolical geniuses behind Demon’s/Dark Souls and Bloodborne, announced Sekiro, complete with a cinematic trailer (with just a bit of gameplay). Coming next year, not much is known about Sekiro other than that the protagonist appears to be a ninja with a prosthetic arm. Given the pedigree of the developer, there’s reason to be excited here.

Fallout 76

Another game that was announced before E3, Fallout 76 revealed a little more about itself and it’s looking like an entirely new direction for the acclaimed RPG series. It presents itself as an online multiplayer experience first and foremost and a not-so-horrifying take on survival horror with your friends. Oh, and you can also nuke other players’ settlements — that’s sure to end well.

Rage 2

Technically, this was announced before E3 even started thanks to some unfortunate leaks; but gameplay was shown off at the convention and it was glorious. The original Rage had promise, but couldn’t quite overcome its flaws — the sequel, on the other hand, looks like Borderlands and DOOM had a baby who really, really likes Mad Max.

Halo Infinite

We know nothing about Halo Infinite other than that it exists but, given the popularity of the series, that will likely be enough (Oh and, as the trailer hints, Master Chief is going to play a bigger role this time as compared to Halo 5).

The Last of Us 2

The Last of Us 2 also did not announce a release date, but managed to save the day with another amazing trailer that also included gameplay. This is E3, so there are no truly ugly games — but in a sea of good-looking ones, The Last of Us 2 looks simply stunning.

Starfield
We’re now getting into the we-don’t-know-much-about-these-yet games, and let’s start with Starfield. It’s a single-player sci-fi RPG, and it also happens to be Bethesda’s first new IP in 25 years. Nothing to go on yet, but given the definite bias towards multiplayer this year, here’s hoping they stick the landing.

The Elder Scrolls VI
In all likelihood, it’s still years away but now all of us know that The Elder Scrolls VI is coming. I don’t think anybody seriously thought that Bethesda would call it a day after Skyrim but hey, now it’s official.
Come by next week when we’ll finish the roundup of all the strange and wonderful news coming out of E3; including, but not limited to, a new Assassin’s Creed, a new Gears of War and...whatever the heck Death Stranding is.
