As the parliament reconvened for the ongoing Monsoon session today, key bills like the Right to Information bill, the Prevention of Corruption bill and the Fugitive Economic Offenders bill came up for discussion.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday set the ball rolling by admitting a no-confidence motion moved by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) member Kesineni Sriniwas on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.

The Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre will face its first no-trust vote in the Lok Sabha on Friday but has more than enough numbers to prove its strength.

"We have asked social media service providers to install checks in their system to prevent such incidents. Such incidents are unfortunate and I request state governments to take appropriate actions against the culprits", added Rajnath Singh.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh answering Congress MP K C Venugopal's question on lynching, said,"It's true that people have lost their lives due to lynching and I condemn it. Lynching is state's concern but the Central government has taken measures to curb fake news".

Congress MP KC Venugopal urges Centre to bring measures to reduce attacks against people with different views, curb lynchings. He also brought in the incidents of Swami Agnivesh's attack and Union MoS Jayant Sinha's garlanding of convicts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government that was in power at the Centre from 2004 to 2014, failed miserably to live up to their promise to provide electricity across the country.

BJD MP Prasanna Acharya in Rajya Sabha said that nearly 500 jawans committed suicides in the country, comparing it to farmer suicides across states. He said, 'Maro jawan, maro kisaan', is the condition now.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi today attacked the BJP government over proposed changes to the Right to Information Act, saying they will render the law useless.

The Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018 has been passed in Lok Sabha, reports ANI.

The Bill seeks to target fugitives for offences where the monetary value exceeds Rs 100 crore. The bill will extend to loan defaulters, fraudsters and also those individuals who violate laws governing taxes, black money, benami properties, financial sector and corruption. The Bill, when it becomes a law, will empower the government to confiscate assets of offenders like Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya.  

The ruling BJD in Odisha will reveal its stand on the Opposition-sponsored no-confidence motion against the NDA-led Centre on the floor of the Parliament tomorrow, a senior party leader said. 

Fugitive Economic Offenders ordinance is the need of the hour.Cases where the total value involved in such offences is Rs.100 crore or more, will come under its purview. Till 2014 nothing was done on this front: Piyush Goyal, Finance Minister in Lok Sabha

Shares flat ahead of Friday's no trust vote

Shares were muted on Thursday with losses in heavyweights such as Tata Consultancy Services Ltd offsetting gains in consumer stocks including Hindustan Unilever Ltd, a day ahead of a no-confidence motion against the government, reported Reuters.

Shiv Sena will vote against the No Confidence Motion. The party has issued a whip for its MPs, directing them to support the government.
