"While all rounds of counting have not been completed, in politics, nothing is certain. But in Ballari, I was given responsibility for Ballari. I had accepted the responsibility gladly. I want to thank the voters, for voting by forgetting caste, religion and other such factors. Ugrappa will work for the people and he had assured them of the same, that is why they voted him in. We are not overconfident by our victory. Sriramulu suggested a TV debate, I was ready to show up with notice, he didn't come. I want to thank all political workers, including those from the BJP for their support in these elections."

People have rejected the negative politics of BJP in Karnataka and the abject failure of Modi govt in addressing people’s issues.
Congrats to all the winners.
Deve Gowda says: "I thank people of Karnataka for supporting development-centric administration of JDS-INC Government. People of the state have given their response to those who were trying to destabilise the state Government."

At 10 am, with several rounds of counting completed across all five seats, the BJP has managed to maintain a slender lead only in Shivamogga with the JDS-Congress combine leading in all other seats. In Ballari, Congress candidate VS Ugrappa could very well pull off the largest win in the bypolls as his lead balloons to over 1 lakh votes.
JDS Candidate Shivrame Gowda leads in Mandya by over 40,000 votes. Presently, Shivamogga is the BJP's only saving grace as BY Raghavendra leads by a small margin of around 6000 votes.
Initial trends suggest a marginal lead by BJP candidate B Y Raghavendra over coalition candidate Madhu Bangarappa.
JDS candidate and wife of Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Anitha, has polled 10,241 votes. The contest in Ramanagaram is largely on paper as the trailing candidate, L Chandrashekar of the BJP, had retired from the contest and joined the Congress. He has polled 1811 votes so far out of 28 booths in 2 rounds of voting.
Ballari: Congress candidate VS Ugrappa's lead over J Shanta of the BJP grows to 31138. Ugrappa after two rounds of counting in 224 out of 1901 booths, has 74668 votes compared to 43530 for Shanta. Around 875 votes have been cast under the 'NOTA' option.

Though the Congress-JD(S) alliance is sure of winning the Mandya parliamentary seat, the BJP hopes to gain its vote share. An increase in vote share is all that the party needs to boost the cadre and capitalise on the infighting with the Congress-JD(S) workers in the run up to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
In the Vokkaliga bastion of Mandya, JD(S)’s L R Shivarame Gowda, is pitted against a fresh face in Dr Siddaramaiah from the BJP.
In Jamkhandi, it remains to be seen whether Congress’ Anand Nyamagowda will be able to make his successful electoral debut, riding on the sympathy wave due to death of his father and former MLA Siddu Nyamagouda, by defeating Srikant Kulkarni of the BJP.

Senior BJP leader Sriramulu’s sister J Shantha is fighting against V S Ugrappa of the Congress, considered an outsider, but strongly backed by party leaders Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar.
In Shivamogga, BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa’s son B Y Raghavendra is testing his fortunes against another former chief minister S Bangarappa’s son Madhu Bangarappa of the JD(S).
It could a walkover in Ramanagara for the JD(S)-Congress combined candidate Anitha Kumaraswamy, wife of the Chief Minister, especially after BJP’s Chandrashekar withdrew from the contest and joined the Congress.
