In a bid to set the tone for Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s next week visit to India, Pakistan on Thursday promised action against 26/11 Mumbai attack perpetrators and said that Pak government is seriously pursuing the case in a special anti-terror court in Rawalpindi.
‘’As far as government of Pakistan is concerned and as far as prosecution is concerned they are doing their best to ensure that justice is done and no stone would be left unturned,’’ Salman Bashir, Pakistan High Commissioner to India said.
Bashir’s remark also assumes significance in view of recent development in the 26/11 case being tried in Pakistan. Five Pak CID inspectors last week testified against Lashkar-e-Taiba chief military commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and six of his associates. CID inspectors had told the court that Lakhvi facilitated training of all 10 terrorists involved in attack at various LeT training camps.
Rehman Malik is expected to reach New Delhi on November 22 and is likely to hold talks with Union Minister of Home Affairs Sushilkumar Shinde on number of issues including Mumbai attack, security relating to upcoming Pak cricket tour to India and implementation of liberalised visa regime between the two nations.
Asked about the chief architect of Mumbai attack Hafiz Saeed roaming freely in Pakistan, High Commissioner Bashir said ‘’Hafiz Saeed or whoever it is... The whole issue, we believe should be dealt in accordance with law, if there is any evidence that’s another thing. I must remind you that Hafiz Saeed was set free after due judicial process by the high court,” he Said.
