Chargesheet against 5 IM suspects

The National Investigation Agency on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against five suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives for allegedly conspiring to carry out terrorist strikes in the country.

Mohammad Danish Ansari alias Abdul Wahab, Mohammad Aftab Alam alias Farooq, Imran Khan, Syed Maqbool alias Zuber and Obaidur Rehman have been charged under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and IPC Sections 121 A and 123.

“The five accused have been charged for being active members of the Indian Mujahideen, a proscribed terrorist organisation, under the UAPA and for hatching a conspiracy to carry out terrorist acts in the country,” the NIA said.

Maqbool was arrested by Delhi Police in October 2012 in connection with the Pune blast. Maqbool and Imran allegedly conducted a recce of Dilsukhnagar in Hyderabad. Sources said Imran was in touch with alleged IM co-founder Riyaz Bhatkal, and with another operative, Asad, they had plotted terror attacks in Hyderabad. Danish was nabbed by the NIA earlier in January from Darbhanga in Bihar. The NIA said he is a close aide of Yasin Bhatkal, who is believed to be the founder of the IM.
