BJP IT cell mulls social outreach

With an aim to target the young voters through the social media and the internet, the main Opposition BJP on Friday held a brainstorming session with its tech-savvy volunteers and the office-bearers of the its IT cell.

One of the 20 committees set up by the party recently as part of its election campaign - Information Communication Campaign Committee - had decided to adopt Mission 272 plus seats for the BJP in the 2014 elections. The daylong session, which saw the participation of over 300 delegates drawn from the BJP’s IT cell and online volunteers, discussed ways to reach out to the maximum number of people through social media like Facebook, Twitter, GooglePlus and even chatting applications like Whats App.

The message from the meeting was that the public opinion should be galvanised in favour of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as a decisive and popular leader. Addressing the meeting, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said that the social media should be used to spread the party’s message.  He said the BJP was setting the agenda even before the campaign had begun and the momentum should be converted into votes.

He also cautioned the volunteers and social media strategists from speaking out or tweeting against the party line as inner party  discipline was important.

The Leader of Opposition in the RS said the BJP was already in election mode and going by the the history of the past elections and the current wave in favour of the BJP, the party would surpass all current projections.
