With actor Sanjay Dutt furlough coming to an end on Monday, he was given a further extension of 14 days. Prison authorities confirmed that the extension was given on Sanjay's application for the same.

Sanjay who has been in prison for almost four months to complete the remainder of his sentence in the 1992 Bombay Bomb blast case was left on furlough on October 1. He had sought the furlough for the treatment of his leg and to be with his family.

Though furlough is the right of convicted prisoners, it is granted only after the recommendations from the district magistrate and police superintendent. Furlough is denied to prisoners if recommending authorities give negative opinion.

Sanjay's star status and his sister Priya Dutt being a Congress MP may have influenced the decision to grant him furlough and an extenion. Dutt has already spent 18 months as an under trial.
