Ministry of Personnel to curb officers' overstaying

Concerned over overstaying of bureaucrats beyond the approved period of inter-cadre deputation, the Ministry of Personnel has mooted a new policy, warning erring officers that such incidents will have serious consequences on their future prospects and that they will not be able to withdraw salary.

The policy, finalised on August 14 and forwarded to all the Ministries and Chief Secretaries of the states, aims to curb the instances of over-stay through an eight-point guideline.

“Any overstay beyond the approved period of inter-cadre deputation without prior approval of the government shall lead to an adverse impact on the prospect of the officer at the time of the empanelment. A copy of the notification shall invariably be marked to the account general concerned with a request to stop payment of salary to the officer beyond approved period of deputation,” the Ministry’s order said.

The Ministry of Personnel added that any extension in inter-cadre deputation period was not automatic and that it should not be presumed merely on the ground of request.
