NEW DELHI: The BJP hit out at self-styled godman Rampal saying his ashrams should be banned as it had become centres of terror.
An editorial in BJP mouthpiece Kamal Sandesh said, “Who should be called a saint or a Baba? The kind of exploitation that was being done in the name of superstition only shows that we are still living in dark ages.”
“These ashrams which have become centres of terror in the name of faith should be deeply investigated. The manner in which the fake Baba Rampal tried to take advantage of human weakness was really a huge sin,” the editorial said in reference to the recent arrest of Rampal at his ashram in Hisar, Haryana, after pitched battles by his supporters with police.
Kamal Sandesh is edited by BJP MP Prabhat Jha.
The saffron party, which is seen as close to the those in robes, however, hit out at Rampal saying he prospered over a period of time.
