Undertrial Commits Suicide in Sabarmati Jail

AHMEDABAD: A 25-year-old undertrial lodged at Sabarmati Central Jail here allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to a window of his cell today, police said.       

"The undertrial prisoner, Issaq Ismail Modan committed suicide by hanging himself to a bar of the window," said Inspector K D Champavat of Ranip police station.     

Modan, a native of Dhandhuka taluka of Ahmedabad district, has been lodged in jail since February 5, 2014 in an attempt to murder case lodged against him by his father, he said.        

On the likely cause behind the suicide, Champavat said that Modan was reportedly suffering from some mental disease, but the exact cause will be known only after investigation.          

A case of accidental death has been lodged in Ranip police station.
