NEW DELHI: The government Wednesday assured that steps will be taken to improve the country's road sector.
Replying to a debate on the demand for grants for his ministry in the Lok Sabha, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said: "A whopping Rs.180,000 crore is stuck in 189 road projects."
The Lok Sabha approved the demand for grants.
The minister said the focus will be on equitable development without discriminating against states.
He said that to prevent accidents, the government will take up road repairs besides working with other agencies, including the police department.
Gadkari also asserted the focus will be "equitable development" and said the ministry will not be discriminating against any state government.
