ED Quizzes Sarkar over Saradha Links

KOLKATA:  The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday questioned secretary of East Bengal Football Club Debabrata Sarkar over his alleged connection with the Saradha Group, which is embroiled in the `2,500-crore chit fund scam.

It was from the documents seized and interrogation of Saradha Group chairman Sudipto Sen, who has been in police custody since April last, that the ED learnt about Sarkar’s connections with the former. Sarkar stated that he was not summoned personally, but in his official capacity as the secretary of one of the oldest soccer clubs in the country.

The East Bengal Club employs many foreign players and the ED wanted to know whether Sudipto had ever made any payment in foreign currency to the club as their fee or transferred money to their bank accounts abroad.
