Braving inclement weather, Vice- President Mohamed Hamid Ansari represented the country at the funeral of Afghan first Vice- President Marshal Mohammed Qasim Fahim in Kabul.

Special Envoy to Afghanistan-Pakistan Satish Lambah and three former envoys to Kabul--Vivek Katju(2002-05), Rakesh Sood (2005-07) and Jayant Prasad (2008-10)--  accompanied the Vice-President on his visit to the Afghan capital.

Interestingly, Ansari had a stint in Afghanistan as Indian Ambassador in 1989-90.

The career diplomat-turned-statesman was the most senior foreign dignitary at the funeral prayers held at the Presidential Palace, which was attended by the entire cross-section of Afghanistan’s political establishment.
