BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Friday addressed a gathering of lawyers and urged them to vote for a clean India and bring about change, while hitting out at External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid for insulting the country’s apex court and the Election Commission.
At a meeting organised by senior lawyer and former BJP leader Ram Jethmalani, Modi said “It is high time that we make India corruption-free and lawyers are the main soldiers who work on the ground and can do a lot of cleaning there.”
Talking about the role of lawyers, Modi said, “All our foremost leaders during the freedom struggle were from this profession. We are a democracy and there is trust in our judiciary.” He added that India was a democracy and that people had trust in the judicial system of the country. “Yes, there are problems and issues of delayed justice, but still the world admires our system,” he said.
Modi stressed on the need of having laws related to forensic science, as present-day crimes were committed with the aid of modern techniques. He cited Gujarat’s example as to how lawyers at the taluka level also use e-library and empower themselves with the best knowledge and present the case in courts in the most comprehensive manner. “There is a lack of law universities in the country. Even the present universities do not provide good practical legal knowledge,” Modi said.
Slams Khurshid for his remarks
Modi pointed out that the Foreign Minister of India was supposed to enhance the country’s prestige across the world, but his statements had only the opposite effect. He criticised Khurshid for insulting India’s Supreme Court and EC.
