2 militants shot dead as forces foil infiltration bids in Kashmir, Punjab

BSF foiled an intrusion bid by five Pakistan nationals as it killed one of them in the Ferozepur sector of Punjab.

CHANDIGARH: The BSF foiled an intrusion bid by five Pakistan nationals on Sunday evening as it killed one of them in the Ferozepur sector of Punjab while the Army foiled a similar attempt near the Line of Control in Kashmir’s Naugam sector by shooting dead a militant.

According to sources, when they noticed suspicious movement by intruders along the fence at the international border, the BSF personnel asked the latter to stop but they opened fire on the jawans. The personnel shot back and killed one of the infiltrators while the others escaped. “Pakistani Rangers have demanded the intruder’s body, which would be handed over to them after a postmortem,” said DIG R K Thapa.

Last month the BSF foiled an infiltration bid when it shot dead three Pakistani intruders in Gurdaspur district.

An Army official said the anti-infiltration operation in the Naugam sector was going on. This is the third infiltration bid to be foiled in the sector in the past one week.

Four militants were killed in an anti-infiltration operation on July 26, followed by another operation on July 30, in which two militants and two soldiers were killed.  (With PTI inputs)
