NEW DELHI: India is closely monitoring the situation as the ambitious $46 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) criss-crossing Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has run into controversy with locals protesting the acquisition of their land for the project.
The inhabitants of Gilgit-Baltistan and PoK have been opposing the 3,000-km-long economic corridor comprising a web of roads, railway lines and pipelines linking western China to southern Pakistan.
Even as the Indian government has not issued an official statement on this, an official said: “We are monitoring the situation closely. Pakistan has been tried to cover its illegal occupation through the farcical polling exercise, but the ground reality is different.”
