CHENNAI: In yet another crackdown on fake medical practitioners, officials of the Directorate of Medical Services caught an alleged quack red handed, who was practicing for years at Kalakattur village in Kancheepuram district. Based on the officials’ complaint, the police arrested M Shoukath Ali (47), who was practicing allopathy in the village for nearly 19 years.

The officials said they recovered his SSLC mark sheet, which showed he had failed in the board exam he had appeared from a school in Andhra Pradesh. He is said to had worked as an assistant for a doctor before opening a clinic himself.

Speaking to Express, Dr V Vijaykumar, joint director of Kancheepuram district, DMS said, M Shoukath Ali (47), basically from Chittoor district, was practicing allopathic medicine for 19 years in Kalakattur village in Kancheepuram district. He also had an invalid Ayurveda degree certificate. M Kamala Kannan, Superintendent, DMS said, locals addressed him as Bhai doctor and clinic as Bhai clinic. He was practicing at his clinic while the team went for raid. He was once arrested by police, but let out later and he shifted his clinic to a new place. The clinic used to be open from 9 am to 12 noon and from 4 to 8 pm.

K G Narasimhavarman, Deputy Superintendent of Police, and vigilance officer at DMS said, Maakarai police registered a case and booked him under IPC sections 419/420 and IMC Act, under section 15 class 3 and sub clause 2.
