Man hired goondas to kill son: cops

KOLKATA: In an unprecedented incident, a businessman from West Bengal allegedly deployed two contract killers and got his son murdered as he was disgusted with his wayward lifestyle.

Ashok Dwivedi, who owns a timber business, was remanded in police custody along with the two contract killers by a district court on Thursday.

On March 6, police found the body of a youth whose throat had been slit by a dagger, in a bush at Junput coastal area. The police later learnt he was Animesh Dwivedi, a 28-year-old graduate from faraway West Midnapore.

After investigating for months, the police arrested Joydeb Maity and Debdual Maity. During interrogation, they said Ashok had paid them Rs.1,30,000 to murder Animesh. The police then arrested Ashok who admitted having ordered his son’s murder. He alleged Animesh would drink daily, gamble, and tease women.

The police suspected foul play as Ashok refused to lodge any complaint and cremated Animesh’s body. Amrit, Animesh’s elder brother, said, “Almost every day, there would be a quarrel between them, but I never dreamt that he would get him killed.”
