Mira-Bhayander BJP MLA Narendra Mehta on Tuesday gifted a Lamborghini Huracan to his wife. Thirty minutes later, the exotic saffron-coloured car became the focus of national attention. Not for its stunningly good looks or for its blink-and-you-miss-it pick up. Mehta's wife Suman lost control of the super car and rammed it into a parked auto rickshaw.

Fortunately, there were no injuries except for those the politician's image suffered.

Responding to the common sexist view about women drivers being inferior to men, Mehta clarified that his wife had over 18 years of experience driving Audis and other imported cars.

He also pointed out that it was a minor accident, which got national coverage only because of the fancy car and the fact that a woman, an MLA's wife at that, was driving it.

"The car just touched the front of the auto and it was not damaged. Road side mechanics cannot repair the car, which is currently parked in a school premises,” he said. A video of the incident that was being played over and over again on television channels, in fact, supports his statement.

The Huracan is worth Rs 5.5 crore and  does 0-100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds.
