RAIPUR:  In the hyper-sensitive terrain dominated by outlawed Maoists in south Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, some 450 km south of Raipur, a medical team accompanied by nearly 300 armed personnel  and administrative officials on Friday conducted an autopsy of a tribal man who was killed by the rebels in April 2016.

Kicche Deva, a resident of Korrapar village was killed allegedly by the Maoists after there were speculations that he was a police informer. Deva’s family lodged an FIR against the ultras at Polampalli police station soon after the incident.

“The body was exhumed for post-mortem by team of doctors. Since the proper coordination was needed among the various departments to reach the place safely and conduct the port-mortem successfully, we had to undertake judicious fool proof planning. And, it took time”, Dornapal police officer Vivek Shukla told the New Indian Express.

A team of troopers comprising CRPF men and the district police force led by Vivek Shukla visited the spot along with the administrative officials, doctors and their team on Friday. The body of Deva was exhumed and the post-mortem was conducted at the same spot under the strong security presence of 300 jawans in the region.

According to Sukma police, the area happens to be a Maoist hotbed and venturing into it needed cautious planning and effective coordination.

The post-mortem was necessary to ascertain the possible cause of death. Though the autopsy report is yet to be prepared, sources told the New Indian Express that the body of Deva was not fully decomposed and it showed sign of broken skull bone and the ribs as injuries sustained that are cited as the plausible reasons leading to his death.
