CHANDIGARH: At a meeting to review various urban development schemes in Haryana, Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu said here on Friday that 8.97 lakh applications had been received so far across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

Naidu said he requested the Haryana government to submit the list of beneficiaries under the scheme by July this year and to submit the Housing for All Plan of Action by August, 2018.

The state also signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of houses in towns. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that beneficiaries of the scheme would be provided interest subvention at the rate of 6.5 per cent for a loan amount of up to Rs 6 lakh, four per cent for a loan amount of Rs 12 lakh, and three per cent for loan amount of Rs 18 lakh.

Naidu said the central government would provide all technical support to Haryana for developing Gurugram as a Smart City, whereas the funding would be made by the state government. The Smart City proposal for Karnal would be evaluated as part of the Round 3 of City Challenge. Faridabad has set up Special Purpose Vehicle for implementation of the Smart City Mission.

Naidu urged the Opposition not to create hindrances in the development process, and play a constructive role to ensure overall growth and development of the country. “The mood of the nation is to go with Modi. Responding to the Prime Minister’s call, as many as 1.4 crore people have given up their LPG subsidy to benefit the poor”, Naidu said.

Speaking on the allegations by Opposition parties that EVMs were tampered during elections, Naidu said that those party leaders should not forget that they also won 67 seats in the Assembly elections with same EVMs. He urged them to desist from spreading false propaganda on this issue.
