NEW DELHI: People have not been "murdered" but "killed" in the floods.

This was what Speaker Sumitra Mahajan told a Congress member during a discussion on the natural calamity in the Lok Sabha today.

Gaurav Gogoi (Cong) said in Hindi that "750 people have been murdered (hatya hui) in the floods."

Mahajan immediately pointed out that the term should be "mrityu (death)".

Gogoi, who belongs to Assam, told the Speaker "thank you for correcting my Hindi."

He was initiating the discussion on a calling attention motion on floods.
