Every drop of your tear sears our heart: Jammu and Kashmir Police to daughter of slain police officer

Assistant Sub Inspector of J&K police Abdul Rashid Shah was killed in militant firing at Mehandi Kadal area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district yesterday afternoon.

SRINAGAR: A picture of slain police officer’s daughter sobbing at her father’s wreath-laying ceremony in Srinagar has moved the police officers and netizens with police officials posting an emotional message, saying “every drop of you tear sear our heart” and termed people involved in such attacks as “insane and enemy of humanity.”

Assistant Sub Inspector of J&K police Abdul Rashid Shah was killed in militant firing at Mehandi Kadal area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district yesterday afternoon.

He hailed from Panzath, Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and is survived by wife, three sons and two daughters including 3-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl girl, Zohra.

The police officer’s five-year-old daughter was inconsolable at the wreath-laying ceremony of her father at District Police Lines Srinagar, yesterday evening. The picture of Zohra sobbing at wreath laying of her father moved the police officers and others.

“Zohra's tears sear the heart. Her father, ASI Rashid's sacrifice will live on forever in our hearts,” DIG south Kashmir S P Pani tweeted.

He said ASI Rashid was a great soul and a dedicated police officer.

“Your tears have shaken many hearts,” read an emtional message posted on Facebook by police officers to Zohra.

It read, “The sacrifice made by youth father will always be remembered.  You are too young to understand as to why this happened” .

The police officers said people responsible for such violence, who attack the lawful symbol of the state and society, are indeed “insane and enemy of humanity”.

“Your father like all of us represented Jammu and Kashmir police force - a hallmark of valour and sacrifice. Many of our police families have suffered and undergone irreparable trauma defending the common good for the society. All those faces and stories indeed create a rich history making us proud,” they said.

The police officers said they cannot forget the heroes, the dear ones with whom they lived and worked with all these years. “All these families are part of a great journey that JKP has undertaken serving the society.”
“Remember we all are one family at this critical phase. Every drop of your tear sears our heart. May Almighty give us the strength to go ahead with our mission of rendering services for the betterment of the society. The vow that we have taken when we donned the uniform stands supreme,” they said.

“Let our sprit and commitment become the harbinger for change, let it be the message of peace and harmony for the fellow citizens. We will always cherish the memory of ASI Abdul Rashid as a true policeman who sacrificed his life in the line of the duty,” added the police officers in the FB post.

Zohra’s picture was widely shared on Twitter with people condemning the killing and expressing condolences with the girl.

Moved by Zohra’s picture, a netizen Aarti Singh Dabas said the photo of this young girl is so disturbing.

“I just cannot get it out of my head. Where is humanity headed? War and guns are not a solution,” she said.

Another netizen Ataur Rehman tweeted, “Wish you children bring the change in Kashmir, for which you brave father sacrificed his life protecting the integrity of the nation and Kashmir”.

“Terrible terrible . Shameful .,” commented another netizen.

 “Heart wrenching picture. May God give her strength to bear this loss,” tweeted PDP youth leader Tahir Syeed tweeted.
