IMPHAL: A police commando was injured when suspected militants fired at the vehicles of security personnel deployed for the security of Manipur deputy chief minister Gaikhangam in the state’s Senapati district on Tuesday morning.

The shots were fired from the hills well ahead of Gaikhangam’s visit to Khoupum village to attend the campaign-launching function of a candidate.

“Security personnel were deployed along the stretch as part of law and order measures. They (militants) fired at two places. But it was not a direct attack and direct firing on the movement of VIPs,” the State’s director general of police L M Khaute told Express.
