NEW DELHI:On a day the AIADMK and its various splinter groups subsumed the entire political space in Chennai using deceased J. Jayalalithaa’s 69th birthday as the occasion, Tamil Nadu’s main opposition leader, DMK’s working president MK Stalin, sought to keep some focus himself and his party by paying a visit to ailing Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi.

Stalin’s two-day visit to the national capital was divided up in raising the Tamil Nadu’s current political situation at a constitutional level as well as political.
‘’The Congress president discussed the situation in Tamil Nadu with the DMK leadership,’’ AICC sources confirmed. Quite significantly, TNCC chief Thirunavukkarasar was kept out of the discussions.
After the DMK delegation met President Pranab Mukherjee and submitted a memorandum on the events that took place in Tamil Nadu assembly last week on Thursday, the meeting with the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday ‘’was the second part of our agenda,’’ a DMK leader later.

“He enquired about her (Sonia Gandhi) health and she enquired about party supremo Karunanidhi’s health condition. It was a formal discussion. They also discussed the political situation in Tamil Nadu,” the DMK leader added, about the meeting that lasted 25 minutes.
