President approves appointment of directors for 5 new IITs

After conducting the interviews, the Union HRD ministry had forwarded the names to the President of India for his approval.

NEW DELHI: President Pranab Mukherjee has approved the much awaited HRD ministry�s proposal appointing directors to five new IITs of Palakkad (Kerala), Dharwad (Karnataka), Tirupati (Andhra  Pradesh), Bhillai-Durg (Chattisgarh) and Goa.

According to official sources, Professor P B Sunil Kumar has been appointed as the director of IIT Palakkad, Professor Seshu Pasumarthy for IIT Dharwad and Professor K N Satyanarayana for IIT Tirupati.

Similarly, Professor Rajat Moona has been appointed Director of IIT Bhilai-Durg and Professor B K Mishra for IIT Goa.

Earlier a Search Cum Selection Committee appointed by Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar had recommended the names after holding interviews of several highly distinguished people with outstanding academic record and experience for posts of Directors to these new IITs.

After conducting the interviews, the Union HRD ministry had forwarded the names to the President of India for his approval. The President is the Visitor of these centrally funded technical institutions.

The Director of an IIT is the academic as well as the administrative head of the prestigious institution.
