JAMMU: The Army in a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police busted a suspected militant hideout in Chhatru area of Kishtwar district and seized a huge cache of arms, ammunition and war-like stores ahead of Republic Day celebrations.

Based on specific intelligence input, the army launched a joint operation with J&K Police in the Hilnar area of Chhatru tehsil, Defence Spokesman said.

The team came upon a suspicious natural cave, whereupon, on further probing and digging, forces recovered one AK-47, one Pistol with Magazine (Chinese), one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher, seven Grenades of Under Barrel Grenade Launcher, two Chinese Hand Grenades, three AK-47 Magazines, 428 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 and two Kenwood Radio Sets (Transistor TH 28A 144MH), he said.

This recovery of war-like stores and destruction of the hideout close to January 26 in the sensitive area of Chhatru has delivered a decisive blow to the nefarious designs of terrorists attempting to disrupt peace in the region, he said.

It has reiterated the total domination of security forces in the Kishtwar district and also showcased the close co-ordination between Army and J&K Police-SOG Kishtwar, he said.
