PATNA/NEW DELHI: A year after Bihar State board Class XII Arts topper Ruby Rai was arrested, Patna police on Friday nabbed this year’s topper in the same stream, Ganesh Kumar, on charge of forgery of documents.
Ganesh Kumar was arrested from the Bihar School Examination Board office on a complaint filed by the board alleging that he took the examination on forged documents, Patna senior superintendent of police, Manu Maharaj, said.
Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) chairman, Anand Kishore said Kumar was called to the office for questioning after reports of him submitting forged documents emerged. He was handed over to the police after it was found that his documents were not in order.
Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) registered a case to probe money laundering by the accused in the 2016 Bihar topper scam case involving the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB).
In its case, registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the agency has named eight persons, including the former BSEB chairman and principals of four schools who were accused in the scam, ED officials said. The scam had hit the headlines last year when Ruby Rai of Bishun Roy College, the ‘topper’ in the Arts category failed to answer even basic questions and explained political science as ‘prodigal science’ which taught ‘cooking’.
The Bihar Police has so far arrested 21 people, including ex-BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh, his wife and former JD(U) MLA Usha Sinha and secretary-cum-principal of Bishun Roy College Bachha Rai among others.
