48 cases of harassment of foreign women tourists in 2014-15

Among the cases registered in 2014, only two persons have been convicted so far and among the cases registered in 2015, no one has been convicted.

NEW DELHI: A total of 48 cases of sexual harassment of foreign women tourists were registered in different parts of the country during 2014-15, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

"As per the information provided by the National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 33 cases in 2014 and 15 cases in 2015 were registered under assault on women (foreign tourists) with intent to outrage her modesty (Section 354A to 354D IPC," Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said while replying a written question.

Among the cases registered in 2014, only two persons have been convicted so far and among the cases registered in 2015, no one has been convicted.

A total of 45 such cases were pending for trial by the end of 2015, he said.
