BHOPAL: A youth, accused of raping his minor relative, hung himself to death at the Morena district Jail toilet, few hours before a local court pronouncing his judgment on Friday morning.
Dinesh Jatav (28) was to receive the verdict for allegedly raping the nine-year-old girl.
Prima facie Jatav has committed suicide by hanging himself with a towel through the ventilator of the jail's toilet, an officer at Morena district jail said.
While a judicial probe has been ordered, the superintendent of Gwalior Central Jail will hold a primary enquiry, said deputy inspector general (DIG-Jails) Sanjay Pandey in Bhopal.
According to department sources, the head warder and two jail guards are likely to face action for dereliction of duty.
Dinesh Jatav, a native of Singhal Basti in Morena town (500 km from Bhopal) was lodged at the Morena district jail since March 2016 for the alleged rape.
