LUCKNOW: Just three days after four women were allegedly gang-raped near Greater Noida, yet another case of sexual violence against women in Uttar Pradesh came to the fore on Sunday through a video that went viral. The video showed two girls being molested by a group of men in Rampur district of western UP.
The police claimed to have arrested the main accused, while search continues for others. The video that caused outrage on social media, shows two girls crying and pleading as over a dozen young men abuse and molest them on a road. The miscreants also filmed the entire episode and uploaded it on social media sites.
According to local sources, two girls and a boy were sitting in a field near Tanda area of Rampur. The group that was passing confronted the trio and started molesting the girls. The boy who accompanied them was thrashed when he resisted them.
According to home department officials, all the culprits were identified and the main accused Shah Nawaz was nabbed on Sunday while police teams were raiding a number of places to nab the rest. “Tanda police has lodged a case against 14 persons with five of them named in the FIR on various charges including molestation, filming the incident and uploading it on social media. The main accused has been arrested and sent to jail,” said Rampur SSP Vipin Tanda.
According to senior police officials, the victims did not lodge any complaint, but cops took cognizance of the incident through the video. An FIR has been lodged against Saddam, Farman, Jahan-e-Alam, and nine others, all residents of Kuva Kheda village of Rampur, they stated.
