Cops hunt for woman who married IS man over phone

LUCKNOW: A woman allegedly radicalised by Islamic State (IS) member Amzad Khan alias Ayan Khan Salafi, who was deported from Saudi Arabia in April this year for recruiting Indians for IS terror branch Junood-ul-Khilafa-Fil-Hind (JKH), is being traced by the Azamgarh police in UP. The link of the woman, purportedly a medical student from Sarai Mir area of the district, surfaced during Amzad’s interrogation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The 24-year-old woman was allegedly influenced by Amzad, with both entering a nuptial relationship over phone in May last year.Amzad is a resident of Churu in Rajasthan and had been closely associated with the IS. He is said to have asked the woman to come with him to Syria and live an Islamic way of life. She agreed to join him despite being aware of his previous marriage.

According to sources, the leads which emerged after Amzad’s interrogation by the NIA indicated that he started interacting with the woman in November-December 2012.
Then she was a medical student in Sarai Mir in Azamgarh. They used to discuss Ahl-e-Hadith, an early pure form of Islam, and she was impressed with Amzad’s knowledge. He acquired most of his knowledge about Islam from the Internet and has become so popular on Facebook that he has 4,000 people in his friends list. The woman also met him on Facebook, Amzad is believed to have told the NIA.
