CHANDIGARH: Gangster Saraj Singh Sandhu posted on his Facebook page on Monday that he killed Sangharsh Sena leader Vipan Sharma 13 days ago. Sandhu stated the murder was in revenge as Sharma had conspired to kill his friend’s father, and that that the killing should not be linked to religion.

In the CCTV footage obtained by Punjab Police, Sandhu was seen firing seven bullets into Sharma. Sandhu’s masked accomplice also shot Sharma. Sharma was shot dead in broad daylight on October 30 at Bharat Nagar area near Batala Road in Amritsar.

“We are verifying whether the gangster has uploaded the Facebook post or someone else did it for him,” said a police official.

Last week police had arrested Sandhu’s mother Sukhraj Kaur from her home in Sultanwind near Amritsar on charges of harbouring her son and other criminals.

Police had booked gangsters Shubham Singh, Sandhu and Dharminder Singh for killing Sharma. Shubham and Sandhu had allegedly shot Sharma while Dharminder and an accomplice waited for them at a distance. All of them then fled on motorcycles.

The deceased Sangharsh Sena leader was close to another gangster who allegedly killed Shubham’s father.

Police had been working on the theory that radicals might have killed Sharma, as they were wearing turbans, and suspected four people’s involvement in the murder.

Last week police busted a terror module, which was being linked to the killing of Hindu leaders in the state. Five men were arrested and weapons recovered from them.
