National Fisherfolk Forum urges Prime Minister Modi to accord status of scheduled tribe status for fishermen

The National Fisherfolk Forum today urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps to give scheduled tribe status to fishermen.​

PUDUCHERRY: The National Fisherfolk Forum (NFF) today urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps to give scheduled tribe status to fishermen.

A resolution adopted at the three day national conference of the NFF, which concluded today, urged Modi to take steps for considering fishermen community on par with the scheduled tribes and setting up a separate ministry for the welfare of the fishermen.

A delegation of the NFF would meet the Prime Minister to push these demands, a resolution passed at the meeting said.

They also wanted to tax free kerosene and diesel, the resolution said.
