RAMESWARAM: Five Tamil Nadu fishermen were today arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy when they were allegedly fishing off Neduntheevu in their territorial waters.

The naval men also seized the boat used by the fishermen from this town and took them to Mannar naval camp in Sri Lanka, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Manikandan said.

Another group of fishermen, who were fishing near Katchatheevu were chased away at gun point by the island nation authorities following which over 50 boats returned to the shore without their catch, President of the Rameswaram Fishermen Association, S Emiret said.

Ten fishermen from Nagapattinam district were arrested on October 8 by the Lankan Navy for allegedly fishing near Neduntheevu.
