NEW DELHI: Working on leads resulting from raids in Goa, the Investigation Wing of the Income-Tax (I-T) Department has busted a multi-city cricket betting racket that was operating out of a residence in Gurgaon. They recovered mini telephone exchanges, 27 mobile phones, dish antennae from a house situated in DLF phase-2.

“After initial interrogation of the accused, the information was passed on to the director-general of police of Haryana. Subsequently the betting gadgets and the accused were handed over to the Gurgaon police for further investigation,” an I-T official said.

According to the Gurgaon police, a case has been registered against the owner of the house. So far, the department has collected evidence of unaccounted income of more than `100 crore. “Our officers recovered two indigenous briefcases containing mini telephone exchanges with 27 Nokia mobile phones, smart phones, laptops, two big dish antennae, a modem, one high-mast antenna and a backup generator,” an official said.

According to sources, the Investigation Wing last week conducted search operations at 12 places in Goa and arrested six accused. These accused were associated with casinos and operated a betting racket in almost five cities including the national capital.

“The Investigation Wing in Goa carried out search operations at various casinos involved in hawala transactions and high-value betting. Searches were also conducted in Goa, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida and Kolkata,” sources said.

This is not the first time that a betting racket has been busted in Delhi-NCR. In August this year, 31 people were arrested in a raid on a house at Atta village in Sector 27 involved in a betting racket run through a website, Satta King, from Dubai.

Cops claimed that almost 60 other people were involved in the racket. Similarly, in July this year, the Delhi police busted an illegal online casino at Kotla Mubarakpur in south Delhi and arrested four persons. Sleuths suspect the racket could be linked to money laundering.
