NEW DELHI: The CBI has arrested retired Orissa High Court judge Ishrat Masroor Quddusi and five others, including the chairman of a private medical college in Lucknow, in a corruption case.

The arrests were effected late on Wednesday from Delhi after search operations at eight locations, including the residence of Justice (retired) Quddusi in Greater Kailash from where a huge wad of cash was found. Searches were also carried out in Bhubaneswar and Lucknow.

A CBI spokesperson said a case was registered against them for allegedly trying to settle an issue related to Prasad Institute of Medical Science, which has been barred by court from admitting new students for two years because of sub-standard facilities.

A designated court on Thursday allowed the CBI plea for their custodial interrogation to unravel the “larger nexus” in the alleged scam. All six have been sent to four days’ CBI custody.
