Vedanta's state-of-the-art cancer hospital in Chhattisgarh from March 25

The initiative by the Vedanta-owned Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (Balco) in Chhattisgarh will be 170-bedded state-of-the-art tertiary care facility.

RAIPUR: The Central India’s biggest state-of-the-art cancer hospital will effectively begin functioning in the Chhattisgarh's new capital city of Naya Raipur from March 25.

The initiative by the Vedanta-owned Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (Balco) in Chhattisgarh will be 170-bedded state-of-the-art tertiary care facility and developed with key technical and clinical inputs from Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata.

“The cancer hospital project triggers strong sentiments for me owing to concern over the increasing incidence of the disease reported in the country. It is not for profit initiative to provide quality
care to all strata of the society. I am told that the hospital is even bigger than the cancer hospital operated by the Tata Group in terms of modern sophisticated equipments and facilities” the Chairman of London-based Vedanta Group Anil Agrawal told the Express and further revealed that the company will request the PM Narendra Modi to dedicate the hospital to the people.

There will be around 75 doctors in the upcoming hospital which is cited as the Central India’s only integrated oncology facility and will deal with all branches of cancer care. viz, medical, surgical, radiation and palliative care.

“Our vision is to create a world-class facility that provides superior-quality treatment at a price affordable for all. And the cancer hospital in Naya Raipur will be different with best in class equipments”, said Jyoti Agrawal, Chairperson, Vedanta Medical Research Foundation.

Equipped with the most up-to-date features, diagnostic and treatment facilities the cancer hospital will primarily serve populations of Central India including Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The company claimed it will also provide employment opportunities to nearly 5000 people.

According to one estimate more than 2.5 million Indians live with cancer and the research suggests 39.6 percent of Indians will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime.
