Naxal beat to death by villagers in Jharkhand

RANCHI: A Naxal was beaten to death by villagers in Bariatu Village in Lathehar district of Jharkhand on Thursday night. The villagers caught hold of him after he had barged into the house of a contractor and started beating him for a levy.

Police said that out of the five rebels, three managed to escape while the other two were caught and beaten up by the villagers.

"Five rebels of Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) barged into the house of a contractor Birendra Singh, presently engaged in toilet construction work, and demanded a levy of Rs 15000 as levy at Bariatu Village which falls under Manika Police Station," said Latehar SP Prashant Anand.  

"When he denied paying the amount, the rebels started beating him, but he ran out of the house and raised an alarm following which villagers gathered there and started chasing the rebels," he added.

"Ramjit Ram died on the spot while the villagers handed over Daroga Oraon, who was also badly injured, to the police," said the SP.

One villager was also injured and has been admitted to Sadar Hospital in Manika.
