GUWAHATI: The two prime accused in double rape-murder cases in trains in eastern Assam earlier this week were arrested by police last night.

While one accused, Bikash Das was arrested from Tinsukia last afternoon, the other, Bipin Pandey, was apprehended from a train in Dibrugarh last night.

Dibrugarh ASP Surjeet Singh Panesar said today that in both cases, the duo drugged the victims, raped them, killed them and then dumped the bodies in toilets, as per preliminary information revealed by the accused during interrogation.

Sivsagar police will take both the accused in its custody, where the initial case was registered after the first incident on July 10.

Both the accused hail from Bihar and are settled in Tinsukia in eastern Assam.

The first victim was a student of Assam Agriculture University, who had boarded a local train at Sivsagar station at around 0855 hours on July 10 and her body was recovered in the toilet of the train at Simaluguri station at 0920 hours.

The body of the second victim was recovered from the toilet of a long-distance train the next day and the woman was travelling from Tinsukia station and the body was found at Mariani station.
