GUWAHATI: A fake Facebook post, attributed to Silchar MP and chief of All India Mahila Congress Sushmita Dev, that Barak Valley is not a part of Assam as per the Treaty of Yandabo was in circulation on Tuesday.

"The Treaty of Yandabo was signed in the year 1826. It was a peace treaty between East India Company and His Majesty the King of Ava that ended the First Anglo-Burmese War. The First Anglo-Burmese War (1824-1826) ended in a British East India Company victory. The Treaty of Yandabo was signed on February 24, 1826 by General Sir Archibald Campbell on the British side, and by Governor of Legaing Maha Min Hla Kyaw Htin from the Burmese side. The Yandabo treaty marks the start of British rule in Assam. As per the treaty of Yandabo present day Barak Valley was not a part of Assam," the post in circulation on the social post reads.

Dev denied having posted it on her Facebook. "I don't know who has written it. It is not me. Somebody is saying I posted it and then deleted it. But if you look through my Facebook page, you will find that I have not posted anything since June 26," she told TNIE. "I feel that somebody is messing around. I don't even know what that note on Yandabo is all about," she added.
