19 killed in landslides, road mishap in Mizoram

Ten people were killed when a building collapsed and swept away following landslides triggered by incessant rains at Lunglawn area of the district.

GUWAHATI: At least 19 people were killed in two separate incidents of landslides and road mishap in Mizoram’s Lunglei district. 

Ten people were killed when a building collapsed and swept away following landslides triggered by incessant rains at Lunglawn area of the district.

It was learnt that 14 people lived in the two-storey building. While ten of them were killed, four others survived. Landslides in Lunglei district had claimed several lives last year too.

Meanwhile, nine people were killed and 21 others injured when a bus, they were traveling in, fell into a gorge near Pangzawl in the district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The police said the bus was en route to Siaha town in Siaha district bordering Myanmar from Aizawl. It rolled down some 500 metres below National Highway 54.

The injured were rushed to a hospital at Pangzawl. The condition of two of them was stated to be critical.
