PM Modi to address gathering in Uttar Pradesh's Maghar

Modi will visit the Maghar on the occasion of the 500th death anniversary of the 15-th century saint and poet Kabir.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public gathering in Uttar Pradesh's Maghar in Sant Kabir Nagar district on Thursday. Modi will visit the Maghar on the occasion of the 500th death anniversary of the 15-th century saint and poet Kabir. Kabir is buried in the town of Maghar.

Modi will offer a chadar at the Sant Kabir mazaar and floral tributes at the poet's burial. At the Sant Kabir cave, he will unveil a plaque to mark the laying of foundation stone of the Kabir Academy which will highlight the poet's teachings and thoughts. Later, the Prime Minister will address a public gathering in Maghar. On this occasion, the Ministry of Culture is arranging a two-day Kabir mahotsav. The mahotsav will include a diverse range of events. Modi will witness the cultural event. Artists from across India will participate in the event. The festival will feature folk music, dance and musical theatre events. A diverse range of classical artists, contemporary Varanasi-centric ensembles and folk troupes offering the perfect blend of historic and contemporary performances will be part of the event.

For the inaugural day, the main events will be Malvi folk song, bhajans on Kabir, panthi folk dance based on Baba Ghasidas, mystic music and folk dance performances from different states. The second day will start with performance of local groups, sufi performance, baul performance, and more performances of folk dances from a range of states.
