Unnao rape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar shifted to Sitapur Jail

Sengar was shifted after the victim's family had made an appeal in the Allahabad High Court to shift him.

LUCKNOW: In a development, Unnao rape case main accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his co-accused Shashi Singh were was shifted from the Unnao jail to Sitapur jail, on Tuesday. The step was taken following a court order in response to rape vicitm’s plea in the Allahabad High Court. The victim had submitted that she was feeling threatened. However, she had expressed her satisfaction with the way CBI was going about the probe into the case. The CBI team, probing the high-profile case, took the accused to Sitapur jail.

The victim told the court that though she was happy with CBI probe but she could not trust the Unnao police. She had alleged that the jailed MLA was having a free run inside the prison and that she feared for her life and the security of her family. 

While  Shashi Singh, the co-accused in the rape case, was also shifted with the MLA, his brother Atul Singh, booked in the assault case of victim’s father, was lodged in Unnao jail along with his 4 accomplices who are his co-accused.

The CBI has registered three cases against Mr Sengar for rape, kidnapping and criminal intimidation. 

On April 16, the girl's statement was recorded amid tight security in the chamber of special CBI magistrate Sapna Tripathi. The Unnao rape case came to light after a 16-year-old girl attempted suicide outside the residence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on April 8.
