Police prevent clash between supporters of Hardik Patel, BJP

Slogan-shouting groups from both sides came face to face, nearly sparking a confrontation, when alert cops swung into action and prevented anything untoward at the spot.

BHOPAL: Political tempers ran high in Dr Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow) town of Indore district, the birthplace of Dr BR Ambedkar, as two important political events took place there on Sunday.

While Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan started the Indore leg of his statewide Jan Ashirwad Yatra from Mhow, Patidar leader from Gujarat, Hardik Patel, started his poll campaign against the ruling BJP through a Kisan Mahapanchayat in neighbouring Bicholi Mardana area.

While Patel’s motorcade and supporters were passing through the Dreamland crossing in Mhow town, they came face to face with BJP workers on their way to the venue of the CM’s Jan Ashirwad Yatra’s starting point.

Slogan-shouting groups from both sides came face to face, nearly sparking a confrontation, when alert cops swung into action and prevented anything untoward at the spot.

Once at the Kisan Mahapanchayat, the Patidar reservation stir leader launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP and the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in the state.

Targeting the state government, Patel said the MP government had done all it could to cover up the Vyapam scam.

The CM’s Jan Ashirwad Yatra was welcomed by crowds of BJP supporters all across Mhow town.  Local BJP MLA Kailash Vijayvargiya, seen as the CM’s competitor, accompanied him during the Yatra.
