You don’t have to shower, just spray

I have figured it out. I’m now the sensei of wisdom, (is that a thing?) the harbinger of good news and all that is holy.

I have figured it out. I’m now the sensei of wisdom, (is that a thing?) the harbinger of good news and all that is holy. This week, I’m going to impart one of my worst-kept secrets: how to hang out at smelly bars all night and have great-smelling hair in the morning — without showering or anything. You can even squeeze a super intense, sweaty workout routine in the middle. YES, this is possible: slightly gross, but possible!

Okay so the older I get, (not that I’m old —but whatever) the lazier I get about shampooing my hair. And I have sort of humidity-attack-prone, chemically-processed, coloured hair, and it gets tied up in knots with each hour that passes — so I know I SHOULD be brushing it out and washing it more, but really it just means that I dread dealing with the knots and things that I procrastinate washing it day after day. Yet I go out night after night, get sweaty exercising all evening.

My nightlife events basically include me standing around a bunch of people who smoke cigarettes all the time. Isn’t that gross? But it is my life and all… I’m hoping the smoker women
will quit once they are 30 and pregnant. I imagine 30 is the magical age, when all the females in my life will start getting preggers (and actually keeping the babies) (what?!) so they might have a few more years to indulge in nicotine and debauchery.

Anyway, the point of this ramble is that I’m super-conscious of having dirty/smelly or/and cigarette-smokey hair. Here’s what you do: take a spray bottle, add essential oil, mix it with a little water and spray it directly onto your paddle brush. It’s super cheap, crazy-amazing and actually good for your hair! Look for rosehip and cinnamon oils — favourites! While lemon is a good odour-masking agent, NEVER apply it in any form to your hair directly. Unless you want a terrible DIY bleach, which will probably look like your colourist took a nap mid-session.

As much as I love dry shampoo, (it constitutes about 60% of me at any given point) it is not my all time favourite FAVOURITE makes-your-hair-smell-suspiciously-clean-and-amazing product. That honour goes to my best bud — Sachajuan Protective Hair Perfume, which is sort of citrus-y and SUPER potent. It might be a tad bit pricy but one bottle lasts like a year and your hair smells better than if you’d actually washed it.
So what are your favourite disguise-the-sweat hacks? Products, disclose! NOW.
